Developers, why are you still using IP to determine the interface language?
That’s outdated in today’s world of relocations and widespread VPN usage.
If you didn’t know - it’s easy to get the browser’s language and use it to set the correct localization in your interface.
It’s frustrating when you're traveling and visit familiar websites, only to find the interface language suddenly switched to the local one, instead of the one you used before or came with.
This applies specifically to international multilingual services.
LinkedIn, Indeed, Netflix, GoDaddy, Atlassian, eBay, Microsoft, Samsung, LG, AliExpress - just a few that come to mind now, but there are many more bad examples of incorrect localization usage.
Good examples include: Twitch, Steam, ChatGPT, Facebook, Pinterest, X.
There are also cases where the default is always English — which is still better than determining the language by IP.
I understand that some services may be subject to state regulations, but I’m not sure this applies strictly to the display language.
Let’s respect users and make interfaces not just beautiful, but also comfortable to use.
